#DatingQuestion: What are the dos and dont’s of Travel Dating?

Last Update : July 30, 2019 by Zoe

When it comes to dating-on-the-go one of the most commonly asked dating questions refers to travel dating: should you give it a try? and most importantly, what are the dos and dont’s when it comes to traveling and dating?

Travel dating can mean different things for different people. For some it will mean a long-distance relationship, if one of the two is the one traveling, it can also mean a couple traveling together, or it can even be casual relationships or dating-on-the-go thanks to dating apps or dating sites.

One thing is for sure: traveling and dating change the rules of the dating game a little bit and adds an extra challenge, but let’s be honest, it can be very exciting!

The number one reason why you should try dating-on-the-go!

Let’s see what are the dos and dont’s of travel dating!

Reasons why Travel Dating is good for you

Travel Dating can be great if you find the right path for you.

What does that mean?

Traveling per se is already a challenge in itself. You will discover lots of things around you and you will also learn a lot about yourself.

In that sense, daring to try travel dating can also teach you lots of things about love and romance, and most importantly, about the kind of Love that you’re really looking for.

As we mentioned previously there are several ways of practicing travel dating:

#1 Long-distance relationship

You’ve been in a relationship for a while, or you just started it. It doesn’t matter. The important thing is that one of the two of you will go travel while the other one will stay.  You talk and you decide to give a try to the long-distance relationship. And we support it!

Having a long-distance relationship can definitely be challenging (check the dont’s section below), however, it can also mean amazing! Being in a long-distance relationship while traveling means that you’ll have support from your loved one throughout your journey. It means that your partner loves you, trusts you and respects your need for personal growth or discovery.

Knowing that if you’ve had a bad day you can talk to someone you love that will support you is priceless.

#2 Couple traveling together

People tend to say that when a couple travels together they tend to break up shortly after that.

The truth is that it doesn’t have to be that way.

What tends to happen is that certain couples don’t manage to adapt to new situations, they repeat the same partners they got used to when they’re traveling and it explodes at some point.

Traveling in a couple doesn’t have to mean spending 24h/7 together. Instead, it means learning to give each other space and learning to respect each other and most importantly to support each other.

A couple that has a traveling adventure together, if they know how to adapt, they will come out reinforced and they will have grown together. What else can you ask for in a relationship?

#3 Meeting singles with dating sites/apps

Now, this one is perhaps the most popular one.

You’re a solo traveler and you decide to make the most of the dating sites/apps. Great idea!

Dating sites/apps have great filters to find matches in a specific local area. So now, if you’re traveling your chances of finding a match are doubled as you can use the filter for location every time you arrive at a new spot.

A great way of experimenting dating, meeting new people and getting to know great matches!

Reasons why Travel Dating is not for you

Not everything is beautiful and easy when you give it a try to travel dating.

Although we do encourage you to get out of your comfort zone and give it a try, there are certain no-nos.

So, if you think you’ve got some of the following characteristics, travel dating might not be for you:

#If you’re jealous

This is the number one problem that destroys many relationships (aside from infidelity of course): jealousy!

Test yourself: Are you the jealous type? (Quiz)

If you are jealous or you suspect you might be jealous (and you don’t think it’s something you should try to improve), travel dating is not for you.

Travel dating requires to put a lot of trust in your partner, and if you’re going to be continuously doubting everything, the experience might become hell for you!

#If you’re looking for routine and to settle

If you’re looking for routine and to settle down, the travel dating is the complete anthesis.

Travel dating is about experimentation, exploration which are great values but it won’t give you the stability you’re looking for.

#If you don’t like to get out of your comfort zone

If you know you don’t function well outside of your comfort zone, then don’t even consider travel dating.

As we said, travel dating can be a great experience, but through your journey, you will also encounter challenges, and certain moments that won’t be as pleasant and will force you to get out of your comfort zone.

If you’ve already created a comfy little nest for you and you like it that way, we don’t recommend you to try travel dating.
